I was just told that the School Committee is holding an "emergency" meeting tonight about the superintendent position ... more as soon as I find out more ... isn't this fun?
Update 30 seconds later: Oh it's right here in the Daily News.

Hope they posted this meeting in time. It doesn't qualify as an "emergency" under the open meeting law. We went through this a few years ago in another local town.
Interesting point, anonymous.
Of course, there was that joint Public Utilities/Budget & Finance meeting a couple of weeks ago that was also never posted ... it seems to be an epidemic (and that didn't have a story in the paper, until afterwards).
Let me get this straight: The school committee's been jilted by their "excellent superintendent" (to quote Steve Cole), yet they're inviting their "ex" back to help select their new "lover"? When will the SC's infatuation with Lyons end? This just highlights how much Lyons has controlled the SC; they will do anything he says. Isn't the SC supposed to be managing the superintendent?
I will point out something that someone wrote in a comment about a story in the Daily News: If this were the private sector, he'd be ushered out the door (with full pay, of course) ASAP ... plus, what happened with the contract he signed in 2008 to stay here until 2013?
Kind of ironic isn't it? In Newburyport, we've got a situation where an employment contract is essentially meaningless; yet on the national front, there's a company (AIG) honoring contractual bonuses for employees who've left their jobs. Both situations involve public tax dollars.
Let's see if he gets a nice quiet payment when he leaves, like his predecessors.
