Hey, I'll be writing a weekly column for this new Newburyport-centric website, Newburyport Today. The column is called "Townie Tuesday," and it will feature one Townie per (brief) post. No politics, no controversy.
So if you know some Townie that's up to something (good), please let me know!
Read all about the site on Tom Salemi's blog.
Man, he's scooping me right and left today ... lol.

should townie tuesday be written by someone who has lived in Newburyport longer than a couple of years?
further, townie tuesday should focus on townies, not transplants, but it seems that boat has already sailed...
I don't know, anonymous, are you saying I can't write about a Townie because I didn't grow up here? yes, you are!
That's nonsense - and funny, because people keep asking me to do it ... including (obviously other) Townies.
And I did not write the one on Alan Bull ... I intend to stick to Townies, as long as you consider someone who was born here but who lives in a neighboring community now a Townie.
"That's nonsense - and funny, because people keep asking me to do it ... including (obviously other) Townies."
name one...
Why?
hi,
maybe you could interview anon.
first question could be. please point out the names of your direct ancestors on the First Settlers list?
obviously as a "townie" anon's family must have been on the "Mary and John".
of course they were transplants to.
thanks,
sds
Thanks, sds. :)
But if anon really knew much about my history here, s/he would already know one instance.
Newburyport Today reeks of a typical Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce "feel".
Amazing that they chose to use Newburyport Today for the name when there has been another blog with a similar title, called Greater Newburyport Today, that has been online for over two years now. And I'm sure they were aware of it.
Amazing to see the "creativity" of the Newburyport Today orgainization (of course they don't even identify themselves).
Nothing surprises me in this City anymore!
I talked to the publisher of Greater Newburyport Today about it and he said he heard about it from some other sources. Pretty low is all I think about it.
I'm a member of the Chamber and that is why I posted it as anonymous. I think they chose a poor name considering there is a pretty similar entity with the same name. You think the "braintrust" in the Chamber (or the "unnamed" entity) could have ecome up with a different name.
You're sure they were aware of it? I'm barely aware of it!
But I'll check and get back to you ... if they were aware, then yeah, they definitely should have come up with another name ...
