Newbury town beach, at noon today

First shot is Jeanne's restaurant from the front, with the mountain of sand in the public parking lot.
Second is the 'groin,' installed by the Army Corps of Engineers to retard erosion to the south. You can see how the beach to the south (right) of the groin is pretty well nourished by sand (the groin is supposed to be completely covered by sand, though).

Third is directly north of the groin, at back of Jeanne's restaurant. The deck on the restaurant has been at least mostly removed. (Click on images to enlarge.)

High tide was at 10:43 a.m. so these photos were taken just over an hour later (11:53).

Two old sayings come to mind.

1. Don't mess with Mother Nature.

2. "That's like shoveling sand against the tide", used to comment on an impossible task.
