Oh no

Oh dear, I am so saddened by the news that Sen. Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. I was just thinking the other day that he almost universally represents me exactly how I want to be represented.

I'm not religious, but I am keeping him in my version of my prayers.

If you're not religious, why do you keep writing of your church activities?

My church activities were about Rev. Nancy, not about being religious. Besides, I like to understand all aspects of my stances. Who knows? I might change.

Even during my long years as a Republican (I'm in recovery), I thought Kennedy was one of the best Senators we had. He got a lot of good things done.

i find it strange that you were so hard on Billy White (desrevedly so) for killing someone with his car, and yet you are such a fan of Ted Kennedy. Double standard?

Well, Ben ... I was actually waiting for someone to make this comment.

Well, you know, if Billy White turns out to be a legislative (or any other that benefits me) legend, I guess I'll be easier on him 40 or so years down the road.

Plus, Kennedy does represent me exactly how I would wish, in most cases. That is a fact. What do you want me to do, pretend he does not?

I don't condone what he did and I think he should have been punished for it. He was not. He went on to be a leader in the Senate.

Fact, fact and fact.

I didn't think it was appropriate to bring up Chappaquiddick here, since he's going to die, probably in a very unpleasant manner, and possibly sooner rather than later.

well, we're all gonna die, and if you can't forgive one person who killed someone when they were young and drunk, i find it strange that you support another. the only difference, is one is a Kennedy and one is not. To quote Ted himself, "Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law?
Or is there one system for the average citizen
and another for the high and mighty?".

I'm not trying to defend Billy White, i just find it a little hypocritical. Of course, you are entitled to feel however you like about anyone you like, I was just curious as to why.

Ben, I was not raised in Massachusetts so was not brought up with "Kennedy love."

I'm sorry I cannot say that Kennedy does not represent me in any way, shape or form.

So ... I could have lied and said he does not or I can live with your calling me a hypocrite.

Hmmmmm ... let's see ... I'll go wth the truth.

i don't mind if you like Kennedy or not, i was just wondering i guess, how you can say you won't feel sorry for billy white, but seem willing to forgive Kennedy for committing essentially the same crime.

Well, I have to admit that after reading the 200+ comments on the Daily News story, most from his "friends," that I do feel kind of sorry for him. A lot of people rallying to his "defense" seem to have let him down, up to and including the "friend" who was with him at the 99 and apparently did not say, "NO! Billy, you can't do that!"

I had no sympathy for the senator when he ran away from that accident and left a woman to die, either.

I am hoping that Billy will be able to find a better support network, pull himself together, and do good things with his life.
