Say "bye-bye" to Mr. A

* BROKEN NEWS *

Ipswich - Superintendent Rick Korb announced today that David Archambault has been chosen to replace Dr. Ken Cooper as principal of Doyon Elementary School in Ipswich. Cooper is retiring after 22 years as principal at Doyon. Archambault has recently served as principal of the Edward G Molin Upper Elementary School in Newburyport.

Korb said in an e-mail to the Chronicle, "I know you will all join me in welcoming Mr. Archambault ("Mr. A" to the kids) to Ipswich. At the same time I know you will also join me in expressing our sincere appreciation to Dr. Cooper for his 22 years of service to the children of Ipswich."

A plan will soon be in place, Korb said, that will enable Archambault to meet with Cooper and the Doyon staff to make the transition as smooth as possible. Archambault begins his official duties on July 1.

One of Kevin Lyons' legacies will be the creation of a "school" (really, just a big hallway) for only 2 grades. As Mr. A's departure demonstrates, it will be difficult to hire and retain any qualified, experienced and committed principal interested in leading this educational experiment. The Molin will be nothing more than a training ground for newbie principals-in-training, who will be "just passing through" for a year or two, then on to bigger and better things. I defy anyone to demonstrate how this kind of revolving door environment is or will be beneficial to Newburyport school children and families.
