Take me to the water

While you mull possible rate hikes on your water and sewer bills, consider that other places are also deep in the ... ummm ... do-do. I noticed this headline on the Flint Journal website:

Detroit proposing another 9.6 percent hike in water rates for Genesee County

At first glance, I was, like why does it make a different to Flint water recipients what Detroit is up to? But lo and behold, Flint gets most of its water from Detroit! Who knew?

I mean, Detroit is only about 75 miles south of Flint.

Tired of those high water bills?

They might get even higher. After Detroit -- Flint's main water supplier -- raised rates by 15.6 percent last August, it now is proposing another 9.6 percent hike for later this year.

And then there's this:

Flint and Lapeer buy water from Detroit. Flint sells the water to the Genesee County Drain Commission, which sells it to local communities that in turn sell it to households and businesses.

Think there's enough bureaucracy there?
