Landfill update #562

I have to report this - it's the responsible thing to do and I am the "Port Reporter Unlimited!"

The mayor said at the ad hoc landfill advisory committee meeting Thurs. evening that he is waiting for another agreement from New Ventures, for the city to review.

He said he would not accept any agreement that did not include a side agreement about Chapter 21E issues/cleanup.

****

Update/correction: I'm told the mayor will issue the administrative order through the Board of Health if this new agreement is satisfactory. The problem is ... satisfactory to who?

But why do we need both?

****

I get the impression the DEP is pressuring both sides here.

I truly suggest that the Newburyport Mayor along with the DEP, AG go to Wood Waste of Boston in Everett, take readings….take a whiff….and see what’s in store for Newburyport. He’s folding and there needs to be a trial. Anyone that can read (and smell) knows this is the wrong thing to do. You will be very very sorry and haven’t the neighbors of the landfill suffered enough?
