So the signs for PI Coffee Roasters and NBPT Lighting are not there, but there are signs for the whale watch (most distant), The Black Cow and PI Kayak, as you can see.

On Pleasant St., there was a single metal table with 2 chairs on the sidewalk outside, I believe, a hair salon (across from the Post Office).I also noticed on State St., as I was driving back home, the A-frame signs for Praline's, another that I couldn't read (probably Abe's), and one for Roca's, all at the corner of State & Liberty streets.
I can hear that helicopter, back at the airport ...

Why the hell is the boat camp sign in the middle of the sidewalk/wheelchair ramp ?
Well, Katie Ives said at last night's City Council meeting (in reference to tables/chairs outside Licorice & Sloe) that city ordinance requires only 5 ft. of clearance. Seems like too little to me, to maneuver a wheelchair. Especially at the point in the photo. Good catch, Bubba.
Forget wheelchairs maneuvering that segment of the sidewalk. The bigger issue is people with crutches or canes, as the indentations between the bricks can cause accidents.
The bigger issue with your picture is if a person driving a car looks at every A-frame, s/he would also get into an accident. I can understand businesses in the rear of the Davis Auto building wanting increased patronage but haphazardly placed signs is not the smart way to do it.
How about a master sign, similar to at Port Plaza and the Tannery, that lists everything back there? Or, that's an area where so-called North Pole signs would help. Make them temporary, though, as once New England Development gets in there everything will change.
You know, that (the boat camp sign) is the worst placement of a sign ever. They could have put it almost anywhere else and it would not be an impediment. It must be fairly recent, since that boat camp is new this summer.
I don't know why the Plum Island Kayak sign is there. I couldn't even see it until I came around those parked cars.
ari, are you serious? The bricks are dangerous now? And signs cause car accidents?
@Ben - I am completely serious. I wrote a story on this issue about six years ago for the a Boston weekly newspaper and you'll never believe how many people in the disability community prefer asphalt or cement over brick. Women prefer it too if you compare a spiked heel to a cane.
But don't take my word. See blog posts here or here, though Adaptive Environments says it best.
To be fair, the Boat Camp sign is new, but the sign post is the same one that's hoisted the Hilton's sign up there for years. They just changed the sign since Hilton's ain't there no more and Boat Camp is.
I don't think the sign has been responsible for any traffic fatalities or rollovers for all these years.
The only time I notice the A-frame signs is when I'm actually pulling into the parking lot. I had never before yesterday noticed the Hilton's/Boat Camp sign, although the Hilton's sign painted on the building there (with an arrow) was always really obvious.
tom is right. that sign post has been there for more than 30 years, likely before there even were sidewalks in that stretch of town...
