I've let you down

Well, regular reader Bubba has laid down the challenge, and now I have to comment about the Smart Car story in today's Daily.

Leaving aside what readers are saying in the comments about the mis-represented highway MPG of the car (statistics say 41, Daily says 50), what the ... ?

[Danielle] Kakouris of West Newbury bought her Smart Car last week and the car has caused a stir ever since. Made by Mercedes, the two-passenger car gets an astounding 50 miles per gallon highway driving.

I wonder what those two old geezers I've seen zipping around in a Smart Car for months think about the snub?

Whatever the snub is, I'm sure being called Geezers will make up for it.

I'm not sure what that emoticon means, but I think it indicates a conspiracy of some kind.

How come a so-called newspaper runs an advertisement for a car (a Mercedes!) on the front page?

Dick, your guess is as good as mine.

Geezer, whatever can you mean?

i'm sure their sense of self satisfaction will make up for the snub.

Hi,

A couple of comments here.

Dick, Its not even a so-called newspaper anymore, they lost that respect ~15 years ago.

That said, i've been asked quite a bit about the Smart Cars that run around town (i'm a car guy) so i do feel its rather appropriate that the Snooze ran an article.

Lots of people have been talking about them, so now its news.

As for Bubba, maybe you should get one. And then you drive around town with a Straw Man on top.

Plus, if you know, that's not really a HMMWV. The H2 is a highly modified Chevy truck.

A 2500 with a body job (and a 1500 rear-end).

But the Smart Car is very cheap, ~20k at the very top end unless you want it all. They start in the low teens.

Gets great mileage. Is safer than most cars on the road. Fits a great market segment.

So what here is the issue?

thanks,
sds

sds,

I think you need to borrow the straw man - where did I say I was opposed to the smart car ?

If you don't see the irony in the DN's reporting, there's no point in my trying to explain it.

As for the H2, it exceeds the weight limit set by the EPA fuel-economy program. It is estimated at 10-13. The smaller H3 gets 13/16 with an automatic transmission.
