Message from Mayor Moak re: landfill

MEMO
Office of the Mayor

From: John F. Moak, Mayor
RE: Landfill

I have read emails from constituents regarding the work at the landfill and the Attorney Generals and Department of Environmental Protection recent agreement with New Ventures.

This administration’s position at this time is:

The agreement although it does not favorably address all issues is an agreement that this administration can use to develop a set of guidelines to monitor daily operations of the landfill.

The Host Community Agreement also has numerous gray areas that do not allow for definitive interpretations of actions by either party.

We do have a Noisome Trade agreement that has been upheld in the courts, and it is a document (we developed through this administration) which is the guideline that we will use to monitor the activities at the landfill and use as an enforcement vehicle, if necessary. This agreement has definable criteria and has been used effectively in the past to allow for the cease and desist of activities when criteria are not met.

The administration has and will continue to monitor the progress of the landfill closure and will also continue to take corrective action when warranted. It is our intention to finalize closure to end this ordeal, protect residents, and limit the city’s liability in order to avoid very costly continuous litigation that has serious consequences.

Legalese and untested logic. What else can be expected as a platform for seeking the Mayoral seat once again.

At this late date there is this general need to explain an after the fact action to the public that he did not trust in his confidance when deciding to take this path. There are enough tested laws and ordinances on the books that do not support such new testing methods to assure the public proper representation on home rule issues.

Yes, yes, anonymous ... but more to the point, what do you think of the new layout?

Seriously, though, who would step up to challenge him?

I hear rumors that there is someone that is very upset at current leadership and directions that are being forced upon the citizenry may make them come out and make a run. Basic homegrown values and community service logic platform. Any platform is better than the no platform we are seeing now.

The new site will take some getting used to, but it is a change for the better. You should bite the bullet and invest a few thousand into a real web blog if you want to make some money on your efforts! ;) Ask the City IT manager to help, he will have some time on his hands I hear........

Oh, really? To my knowledge, I've never even seen the city IT manager. The website is a nightmare (for me, anyway).

It's hard to get good people to run for a position that basically pays peanuts.
