Facebook hacked today

This happened to me today, so read that and this and be warned:

I got a message from a friend over Facebook and even though I didn't understand it (from reading the alert email), I opened it on Facebook.

Now I'm all paranoid (what else is new?) and I'm changing my passwords.

I knew better, but I did it anyway ... only whatever it was I was being urged to look at was not a link.

Don't merely change your password. You may have downloaded a virus, too. If you have Windows, I strongly suggest installing and running MalwareBytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org - or a compatible tool for the Mac.

I had that - and then my McAfee software stopped working. I was told (by McAfee) to get it off my laptop ASAP.

McAfee and Norton and Microsoft anti-virus programs co-exist with every file in your computer. I used to use them; not anymore. My virus checker is an open source tool called Clamwin - http://www.clamwin.com - and I also the combination of MalwareBytes and SpamBot once in a while, or when I think I'm infected.

McAfee, of course, will tell you to remove programs that conflict with McAfee which is why McAfee is bad. McAfee does not -- can not -- detect malware.
