Gov. Patrick pays us a visit

Wow, and I did not have a clue. Non-reporters don't get informed of this stuff - sometimes actual reporters don't, either, actually. Here is the story from our friendly paper of record, the Daily News.

The Gov. met behind closed doors at PI Coffee Roasters to discuss municipal issues? The very coffee shop located in a building owned by Stephen Karp, now the biggest developer in the city ...

Patrick's visit started with a get-together at Plum Island Roasters, the coffee shop among the marinas on Waterside West, the site eyed for development by Stephen Karp. About 30 people gathered there in a closed-door meeting to discuss local issues such as municipal revenues, state issues such as the casino proposal, and other topics.

(So ... he's just eyeing the site? He bought it for megabucks to just check it out? You think he'll change his mind about the development and instead build the greenhouses suggesed by Tom Salemi in comments on his April 4 post "Living Local" instead?)

Not sure if the site was significant or not, but why the closed doors? The "about 30 people" were, according to the paper, supporters of his gubernatorial campaign. If he was discussing municipal revenues, shouldn't taxpayers be made privvy to his comments?

Quick, let me see if the Current offers more insight ... uh, no. Gee, all this time and they still don't have a reporter who is available on short notice to cover these sorts of events?

Well, I like the Gov. but he apparently did not read up before coming up here about issues facing the city: the parking lots on the river, the landfill debacle and the beach erosion/river dredging on Plum Island.

Well at least we know he wasn't talking to the 30 people about any of that stuff.

Wow. Strong stuff.

Let me guess: you voted for Healey?

Ari,

Didn't mean to be so "strong." And re: Healey - No, not at all! Yikes! Gadzooks! As if ...! As I said, I like the Gov.; I like him a lot, in fact. Just curious about what went on, that's all.
