Yikes

Well this is nice - Esquire magazine has named the Plum Island beach as one of the worst in the world!

It's #2, right behind a beach in Goa, India, where sacred cows are allowed to roam the beach. I actually think that if I were visiting India, I'd go to that beach just to see the cows.

If I were Esquire, I'd have been more inclined to mention the riptides and icy cold water in addition to the erosion.

But still - the tiny piece doesn't mention the Refuge beach/Sandy Point State Reservation (both also on Plum Island, nitwits), and both of which are beautiful and have little erosion because they are pristine, or the part of the beach that's in Newburyport.

Pffft.

Speaking of the beach, it should be a good place to watch the upcoming Perseids. (http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/31jul_perseids2009.htm)

I assume it's not possible to get to the South end of the island after dark, but are there laws against parking in the Newburyport lot after dark?

Well, had they known the refuge beach is closed for most of the season because of the Plovers we might have beat out India...

Pristine beaches don't erode ? ....pffft

One wonders if that article comes from this one that has the wrong map coordinates and is instead referring to Kings Beach in Lynn.

I have found a dirty syringe on PI beach! It had no cap on it and a child could had step on it! I found an empty bottle on the sand and used that pick up the syringe and gave it to some men that were taking the trash away.
I also called in a dead deer that was on the beach , it was half eaten and the dogs were getting into it ! Dogs love to roll in the most disgusting things! YUCKY!!

I think you can park at the point at night, Dick, but you're right that the Refuge blocks off the road to Sandy Point at night. Or did last time I looked.

thanks everyone else except Bubba, who mocked me.

I'm just going to go to the end of the street. Of course, last time, I saw nothing.

A few years ago, while we were on the OBX, we saw that a dozen or more cottages had disappeared as a result of ONE storm. This article doth protest too much.

What you want is a view toward the Northeast with as little light as possible. I was thinking that, at Maudslay, you'd be looking right across downtown.

Of course, this may all be academic. The weather forecast is not goo.

Dick, then the point is your best bet - if the weather cooperates. Or anywhere in my side yard ... you guys are welcome!

Pretty funny considering that Travel and Leisure named Blue as one of the top U.S. seaside inns in the July issue: http://www.travelandleisure.com/slideshows/top-us-seaside-inns-2009/6
