City Council takes up more hot issues

I got an email from Ed Cameron directing me to his blog where he lets us all know about orders on the next City Council agenda re: civil service and local excise taxes.

These are issues that were asked of the candidates in the CEB interviews. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other but it will be interesting to see what comes of the orders.

Also interesting were some of the responses I got to the question about civil service and the positions of fire chief and city marshal, from the candidates not currently on the council.

Even if you don't live in Ward 1, check out Allison Heartquist's interview. It's only 20 minutes long so it's not like I'm asking you to spend a lot of time on this. I think it airs tomorrow for the first time.

And then check out the campaign sign supporting her, on the home - or rather the garage - of our latest appointee to the Redevelopment Authority.

There's despising Larry McCavitt (current Ward 1 councillor running for re-election) and then there's ... well, you judge for yourselves.

I hear she just got a job in Mayor Thatcher Kezer's office, over in Amesbury.

It looks like you're taking sides on this one.

Well, Bubba, I do live in Ward 1 ... I'd be interested to read your comments post-airing of the interview.

I'll be sure to catch it - fortunately Ms Heartquist is aware that PI is in ward 1 - there have been more Piping Plover than Larry McCavitt sightings on the island over the last two years.

Well, she also lives out here. I'm not sure she's fully aware, issue-wise, that there's more to Ward 1 than PI - so it's six of one and half a dozen of the other in that respect.

And I'm really concerned about the working in Kezer's office angle. I'm sure in some respects he's trying to make up for booting her when he broke up the health dept. but ... whatever.

I think there's a big difference between a sitting ward councillor igoring his constituents and a challenger seeking office.

Gee, maybe Keezer thinks she might be an asset to his team ?

I understand that you're pals with McCavitt, vote early and often.

Beg to correct your misapprehension - I am NOT "pals" with McCavitt, or any other City Councillor. If Ari gets elected, then I won't be able to say that.

I just don't think she's even remotely qualified and if/when you watch the interview you will see why I think that. Or maybe you won't see it. Who knows? Who cares?

And as you obviously have forgotten, I can't vote.

I was just about to tell you what a nice job I thought you had done with the interviews I had seen so far.

They said that Obama fella wasn't qualified either, but I think he's doing a pretty good job.

Thank you, Bubba.

And in the case of Obama, it was a leap of faith people took on information he did provide and his understanding of government.

Allison seems to be a very nice, friendly person. Very upbeat and enthusiastic.

I'll leave it to you to decide on her qualifications. I was just stating my opinion, as a Ward 1 resident.

You'll notice I'm not airing my multiple opinions about any of the other candidates ...
