Rant of the day

Harking back to Tom Salemi's post on the election - I don't want to raise trouble on his blog, so I'll rant on my own blog this time.

Black liberation theology???? X, what the hell does that mean?

If you are who I think you are, you know me. You've spoken with me. You think I'm dangerous? I mean, you may not agree with me about a lot of things, but do you think I'm dangerous?

I've written about empathy before. That's where you feel the pain of others.

Until you've been followed around in stores, been stopped numerous times by the police for bogus reasons, or, you know, been considered to be sub-human, I would say ... well, I won't say it.

This election result has done more to forward race relations in this country than anything else could have.

If someone can't see that, then God help them.

And by the way, lots of people sit in church and listen to stuff they don't necessarily believe. Look at all the Catholics on birth control.

In fact, listening to the rhetoric of hate might inspire a person to go out and try to make a difference (or prove it wrong, for the most part) ... hmmmm, now there's a thought.

"BLACK THEOLOGY REFUSES TO ACCEPT A GOD WHO IS NOT IDENTIFIED TOTALLY WITH THE GOALS OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY.

IF GOD IS NOT FOR US AND AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE, THEN HE IS A MURDERER, AND WE HAD BETTER KILL HIM.

BLACK THEOLOGY ACCEPTS ONLY THE LOVE OF A GOD WHICH PARTICIPATES IN THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WHITE ENEMY."

- Black Liberation Theology, as cited by Rev Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama's pastor, friend and spiritual advisor of 20 years, who married the Obamas, baptized their children, and the church Obama attended with his children, and financially supported for 20 years.

Ummmm... Ok. Where'd you get that from? I'm not disputing it, I'm just curious.

Hi,

Ms. Swart, take a look for Dr. James H. Cone.

The referenced quote is taken I believe from one of his books written in the 60's.

He's one of "those" kind of people.

BA, MA, PhD, Ordained Minister.

I know its probably useless to try and discuss this with some, but anyone interested, try doing a replace of black/white with christian/hebrew.

Sounds like some people a long time ago.

Great line in "John Adams" (the HBS mini-series).

Sam Adams : God damn the King.

Ben Franklin : God bless the King. Who else could've brought such a spirit of unity to the Congress?

Personally, I thank elohim that god is dead (really, I took Gay Science in school (sorry, wacko reference))

But there are apparently caves in which his shadow is still shown.

If you are interested i'd suggest looking up liberation theology.

It's a christian concept that has quite an interesting history. Vatican II and all.

I also find it very interesting that all of a sudden some "christians" just found out about this.

I guess they are just circling the drain.

thanks,
sds

there is quite a lot of information available, just google black liberation theology and obama, or rev. wright. this, i believe was posted on a local radio station's website

Thanks, both of you.

sds, I kind of figured that it was something that was posted somewhere with no context except Obama and Wright.

I agree with you about the drain. Forget all the racist actions (and anti-humanitarian in general stuff) that have been instigated based on religion, I guess.

forget all the charity as well, i guess.

X, There's good and there's bad in almost everything ... and charity is not the exclusive domain of religion. I'm not anti-religion, I'm just anti-extreme. Unless it's me being extreme, of course, because that's my middle name.
