YWCA unveils new facility

The YWCA of Greater Newburyport, with much fanfare, unveiled its new pools and fitness facility this afternoon.

With a bevy of dignitaries ranging from Mayor Moak to State Rep. Mike Costello (middle, with Nancy Peace) who said he learned to swim in the old pool, on hand, Martha Bower (left) dove into the new pool and took the first lap.
Bower won the first lap opp in a raffle held last year.
The YWCA, now in its 125th year, has been developing plans for this renovation over the last 10 years, said president of board of directors, Nancy Peace.
The whole reception area has been remodeled to be more space efficient and the new locker rooms are spiffy (at least the women's one is; I did not go into the other).
There is also a new fitness room and the cumbersome hallway into the executive offices and other new rooms has been upgraded. All in all, a good job!
Mary Haslinger took the first dip into the new therapy pool.
